Petrești
Petreşti commune is located in the contact region between the Carei Plains and Ier Plains. In 1740, count Alexander Károlyi colonized the locality with Schwabian families brought from the neighbouring villages. The number of inhabitants of German ethnicity decreased dramatically, especially as a result of mass emigrations during the communist decades. Nowadays this process is no longer specific. Many people who had gone abroad kept their houses and they return every year and spend some time in their native village. The Schwabian museum founded in 1993 is a traditional house built in 1881. The museum presents in detail the daily life of the local people from the end of the 19th century and beginning of 20th century. Agriculture is the most important economic activity, and the agricultural association from Petreşti carries out animal breeding and plant cultivation activities.
